This is a bed warmer, also known as a warming pan. These were commonly used from the 17th to the early 20th century to warm beds before sleeping.<br><br>The pan, typically made of brass or copper, would be filled with hot coals or embers.<br><br>The long wooden handle allowed the user to slide the pan under the bed covers to warm the sheets without scorching them.<br><br>The lid often had pierced patterns to allow heat to escape.<br><br>Bed warmers were eventually replaced by hot water bottles and electric blankets.<br><br><br>Great collectors item in good condition.
