The most common early version of the "C" clasp used prior to the 1890s looks more like a curled wire. Pieces incorporating the earlier style also have a tube-shaped hinge for the pin stem, and sometimes the point of the pin stem will extend beyond the edge of the brooch. <br>The large oval brooch measures 2.5" high x 2" wide. The small brooch measures 1-1/8" inch in diameter. Both were hand painted by the same person, an ancestor of mine. <br>They are in very good condition.
